finniston are glasgow based brother and sister:
steven finnie - vocals, guitar and songwriting
jolene crawford - harmonies, piano, accordian and violin
the very talented andrew gifford - bass, upright bass and harmonies
and the drumming sensation that is jamie attridge
2006 has been an eventful year for finniston, they caught the ear of several major label bosses resulting in the recording of a demo paid for by polydor records. gigs at the big big world festival in the arches, a support slot with roddy hart, and an appearance at abc 1 in glasgow supporting hue and cry have rounded off a successful summer.
polydor didn't think there was a hit on the studio recording, but when finniston released it on their own label under the title of 'golden hour of strict tempo dancing' it made single of the week in the daily record (scotland's biggest selling newspaper) beating paris hilton!
'it's the cavalcade, tumble down keyboards, squeezebox wooze and subtly sharp guitaring stiched to those typically scottish wall to wall sweet n sour vocal sheets that hook you. this is material that grabs you like an over-insistent shiva...seducing, firing you up and drawing you into the whirl or the eddy of their pool. finniston are too good for me, but you'll cope, love cherish and all that, so do that.'

our history
the siblings:
growing up in the north of scotland (buckie then banchory for those of you who like specifics, and with a touch of shetland and Ireland sprinkled in) steven and jolene dutifully attended fiddle lessons, piano lessons and highland dancing yes steven too…… steven's musical talent was evident from the age of 2 when he amused all those round him by performing rolf harris's 'two little boys' wordperfect
accompanied by his little wooden guitar.
in the years that followed steven entered the world of sporting captaincy at university, and therefore coppious amounts of beer drinking, followed by world travel with his guitar. Jolene had been refining her skills as a ceilidh band musician since the age
of 13 and went on to play in a cross section of bands including the now legendary v-twin of glasgow .
In 2003 steven and Jolene ended up
living one street apart and thus finniston was born.
the new guys:
having long contemplated expanding their sound, finniston finally found the perfect solution in the form of shetlander andrew gifford, who joined in 2006 to play bass and sing harmonies. known in another life as one-seventh of fiddlers bid he has toured all over the world playing his fiddle. born in kirkwall, andrew moved to shetland as a young boy where he worried his parents with his 'excessive fiddle playing'. he actually used to get up at six to get a few hours in before school.......mmmm! andrew and steven first met at halls at glasgow university in 1998, and of course being a shetlander we are probably all related at some level.
as every band knows, the hardest band member to find is usually the drummer. we've been on the lookout for quite a while now and have finally completed the line-up with the addition of jamie attridge. hailing originally from the isle of skye, jamie is now based in glasgow. having played in a variety of bands ranging from rock to ceilidh music, jamie's versatile drumming is just what finniston needed!
